From IQ to EQ the world is changing but is it really changing? Science will have us believe that gone are the days of intelligence being the most important factor in evaluating a human being, now you need to check emotional intelligence more than the intellect.

There are countless books now which talk about how the entire gamut of emotions were discovered and how experiments in various part of the brain lead to the discovery of finding out that same situation can bring about different emotions and reactions depending upon a lot of different factors that affect an individual.

The cave person was an individual who was driven by either fear or contentment and nothing more as their life was simple. As the world evolved and the discoveries were made. This led to complications in life and brought with it various types and degrees of emotions that a human being felt.

Fear slowly started taking a back seat and other emotions became more prominent in our minds. It is said that a child is born with only 2 emotions- Fear and safety, but as you grow, you experience other emotions, and fear becomes just a small part of your entire bouquet of emotions.

Today we have entire social media full of content on how to be happy and find that mental peace and the emotions that are being considered a roadblock in this are anger, frustration, hurt, trauma and a few more. The part that fear plays in all thses is being considered as a very small portion, may be just about 10% roughly( for the sake of our debate and for putting a number to it) and we are an evolved species now and are capable of feeling much more than fear.

My question to you now is…. Are we really evolved and is fear just a small portion of our entire gamut of emotions?

Lets, assume there is a Mr M and Miss W, 2 individuals who are about …. Oh well assume them to be of any age the questions and the answers would be the same irrespective of their age or gender.. Don’t believe it?

Let try….

As Mr M or Miss W lie in their bed wishing, hoping its not morning and they can sleep a bit more what do you think is the thought in their head?

I need to wake up or/else/otherwise………

Lets assume they want to wake up and are the kind of people who are excited about life and the day.

What would their thoughts be?

I have to wake up or/ else/otherwise……..

Please feel free to put yourself and each and every member of your family in this scenario and think of the answer very carefully. What is the most basic emotion that gets them out of the bed.

You can try to give it any name but when you peel the layers you will find the innermost emotion as fear.

The food you eat, the house you live in, the clothes that you wear, anything and everything that you do is simply based on fear only. We as adults have ingrained this in the brains of our children from the time we know that the child can understand what we are saying.

Do this otherwise…..

Finish this otherwise….

Learn this otherwise…

What is this if not engraining fear, as the driver, motivator and the result of every aspect of our life.

How then do we say that we have moved beyond fear? How do we say that it’s just a small part of our emotional bouquet?

The fight or flight emotion is something that we live and breath with every single moment of our life. It is not a thing of the past. It is not the emotion of the caveman. It is not a newborn child’s emotion.

It is and will be the biggest chunk of our emotions.

Now the question is if you will allow it to be your whole pie or just a slice of it?
